Device compatibility
An eSIM needs a phone that supports eSIM and isn’t locked to a single carrier. Check both before you buy — it takes a minute.
1. Does your phone support eSIM?
Dial *#06# on your phone. If you see an EID number (a long code, separate from the IMEI), your phone supports eSIM. On iPhone you can also check Settings → General → About → look for “Available SIM” or an EID.
2. Is your phone carrier-unlocked?
A phone locked to a specific operator can’t use another network’s eSIM. If you bought it outright or it’s out of contract it’s usually unlocked; if you’re unsure, ask your operator to confirm — they can unlock it, sometimes for free.
Commonly compatible devices
This isn’t exhaustive — the *#06# check above is the definitive test — but as a guide:
iPhone
iPhone XS, XR and every model since (XS/XR, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and SE 2020 onward). iPhones bought in mainland China are the exception — they use physical dual-SIM and have no eSIM.
Samsung
Galaxy S20 and newer, Z Flip / Z Fold series, Note 20. Some regional variants differ — check with *#06#.
Google Pixel
Pixel 3 and newer (Pixel 3 excluding some carrier variants; Pixel 4 and up are reliable).
Others
Many recent Motorola, Oppo, Huawei, Sony and Honor flagships support eSIM. The *#06# EID check is the only sure answer.
Important
A plan bought for an incompatible or locked device is still delivered and counts as installed once you scan it — so it can’t be refunded afterwards (see Payment & refunds). Check compatibility first.
